Friendship Quilt Exchange 2014: The Final Chapter

Hello ladies! At our upcoming beach trip we will do the final round on our friendship quilt exchange!  Some of us will be exchanging 2 quilts this round like last year, and others only have one to go.  The rotation got a little off in the middle due to a couple of people opting out; that is why it is a little uneven here at the end.  Ultimately, you should end up with as many quilts as you made.  After this round, everyone should theoretically have a quilt from everyone else.  If you are behind, please don't stress.  This is not meant to make your life more crazy.  Please just talk individually to the people you owe a quilt to and set up your own timetable for getting it to them.  If you see something amiss here either on the giving or receiving end please let me know.  I'm am going off of my notes and photos and think I got it all straight, but may have missed something.  I have my quilts up on my wall in my sewing room and I love them all!  Thank you for doing this exchange so I can have a little piece of each of you with me.  Can't wait to see you all in a few short weeks!

Friendship Quilt Exchange

Hello friends!  It was marvelous to spend a quilting morning with some of you a few weeks ago and reconnect.  For those who couldn't make it, we missed you!  We agreed to go ahead and do a summer quilt exchange and Christi offered to host an evening gathering in July or August where we can exchange.  Perhaps we can alternate between evening and daytime get-togethers to accommodate everyone's schedules?  I propose another daytime gathering in early fall, then an evening holiday dinner in early December.  Thoughts?  Check your calendars and see if you can host one of those events.

Here is the rotation for the next 2 exchanges.  If you can't get the summer one done, you can exchange 2 at the beach in January 2013.  Just be sure to let your person know so they don't feel forgotten!

Recipes-from Christi

Here is the Butternut Squash Soup recipe. I found this on She has a cooking program and some of her videos are on the website. All of her recipes are and there are some that look really good. I took some classes from her over the summer.

Pressure Cooked Butternut Squash Soup
½ Onion diced small
2 Stalks Celery diced small
2 Carrot sticks diced small
2T butter
¼ t Fresh grated Nutmeg
½ t Cinnamon
½ C Brown Sugar
¼ C Real Maple Syrup
1t Salt
1 lrg Butternut Squash cut in 1” pieces
(32oz) Vegetable Stock (enough to cover squash)
1 Anise Star (place in sachet bag to be removed)
½ C Heavy CreamSauté onions, carrots, celery in butter with spices. Sauté till aromatic. Add brown sugar and maple syrup. Stir till fully combined and sugar has dissolved. Add squash, salt, and pour vegetable broth over until squash is fully covered. Stir well. Place pressure cooker on #1 and cook for 15 minutes. Release naturally. Remove star anise. Puree with L’EQUIP stick blender using the blender piece, until smooth. Add Heavy Cream to thin out. If needed add more sugar. To serve sprinkle with cinnamon/sugar croutons or candied pecans.

And Winter Salad which was the recipe (with a few tweaks) that Monica used.
Winter Salad
1 head romaine, cut up (also good with half romaine and half spinach)
1 cup swiss or jack cheese, cut into bite-sized pieces (I like shredded Swiss the best)
1 cup cashews
1/4 cup craisins
1 apple, cut into bite-sized pieces
1 pear, cut into bite-sized pieces

1/2 cup sugar
1/3 lemon juice
1/2 tsp salt
1 Tbsp poppy seeds
1 tsp mustard (I used Dijon)
2/3 cup vegetable oil

Friendship Quilt Exhange Schedule

Friendship quilt time again! We got a little behind on our summer exchange, so let's all try to get caught up by the end of the beach retreat. Please let me know if you gave or received a quilt from August that is not noted here.

For those who are in attendance let's plan to exchange January's quilts at the beach like we did last year. If you are behind please don't despair - small and simple is a great way to get caught up. It is the thought and representation of each person that matters here. I am LOVING my little quilt wall in progress and it makes me so happy to look at the quilts I have so far and think how blessed I am to count you amazing ladies as dear friends.

Round 3- Friendship Quilt Exchange

Edited to Add: Kristen and Sherianne have opted out of the exchange. They both have a lot going on in their lives and felt it was hard to keep up. We will miss you ladies, but understand that life can get crazy. If either of you get to the point where you want to join back in, please don't hesitate to say so. Revised exchange is below - only a couple of people are affected.

Okay Ladies- we've had a few months off since our last quilt exchange in January, so time to rev up those machines and get working on #3. We will exchange quilts Aug. 1 at a summer quilting get-together, or by mail. Following that, we'll exchange at the beach in Jan. 2012 so if you are ambitious and want to work ahead, go for it! We'll just keep rotating by moving the recipient's name down one person on the list. I know everyone is busy, so if you are overwhelmed remember to keep it simple!
